Finally Saying Goodbye to Pain & Discomfort
Many people avoid coming to the dentist because of anxiety or fear left from bad past experiences. A large percentage of Americans suffer from dental anxiety because they associate great pain and discomfort with the after effects of a procedure. The problem with dental anxiety is that it often keeps people from keeping their important, regular dental checkup. You need to know this: dental anxiety is not necessary! Here at Dental Care of Mid Florida we have options to give our patients a calm and non-painful experience with us.
A reason that sedation dentistry is popular among our happy patients is because they aren’t injected; most sedatives can be taken by mouth. Often times the effects are so effective that our patients don’t remember sounds, smells or details of the procedure. It’s all a calm blur and before the patients know it, they are done and on their way to normal life again.
People of all ages can benefit from sedation dentistry. Dentists often recommend this option for those with:
Large or lengthy procedures.
Dental anxiety.
A fear of visiting the dentist.
An overly sensitive gag reflex.
A fear of needles (aichmophobia).
Extreme teeth sensitivity.
Feelings of claustrophobia while in the dental chair.
Decreased sensitivity to local anesthesia.
Difficulty controlling movements.
Nitrous oxide (suitable for children aged 5 and older)
Oral conscious sedation (For patients who are eligible and aged 18 years or older)
Intravenous (IV) sedation (For patients who are eligible and aged 18 years or older)

Primarily the oral sedation drugs are classified as benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are known for reducing anxiety, calming muscle spasms, and aiding in insomnia or relieving seizures. The effects of benzodiazepines can last for different amounts of time, so we determine which drug to administer depending on the type of procedure we are performing.
Valium® – We use this strong sedative for complex, long procedures.
Halcion® – This sedative is employed for short procedures.
Versed® – We employ this sedative rarely when a very short procedure is necessary. It is often compared to nitrous oxide.

Lovely place and the front desk staff were very efficient and friendly. I see Dr. Llerrena and he is excellent and fit me in for some jaw and gum pain I was concerned about. I know there are many dental care offices from which to choose, but I choose them. No question.

Such a great place! Had extreme pain and the doctor stayed late to help me out! Highly recommend them and will definitely be back!

Very attentive and informative of what's being done and what to expect. Felt no pain during and after procedure.

Totally professional office and staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a complete dentistry service. Work was exceptional and painless.

Dentistry might be in Dr. Ron Owen's blood. His father was a dentist so Dr. Ron was always familiar with the profession, but he didn't always picture himself as a dentist. It seems fate pictured it all along for Dr. Ron; he just had to go through a few things before catching on. Dr. Ron has always been good with his hands. Like many mechanically-minded boys, he loved to work on things and "tinker" just for fun. He could get lost in a project, which he created for himself, and simply figure out the way something works. As Dr. Ron matured that love for tinkering grew to a much larger scale; Dr. Ron fell in love with airplanes. He wanted nothing more than to be a pilot. That was plan A. Plan A was followed by plan B, a plan C and a plan D. Dr. Ron had options.

Dr. Collins was born and raised in a small town in Arkansas and graduated from LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans in 1998. He served as a Dental Officer in U.S. Navy for four years and completed a one-year Advanced Program in General Dentistry. Dr. Collins moved to Orlando in 2002 and began Collins Dental in early 2003.
Dr. Collins is a Certified Invisalign® Specialist—Premier Dentist, a Certified Lumineers® Dentist, and a Certified Snap-On Smile® Dentist. His professional affiliations include:
Dr. Llerena grew up in South Florida and is fluent in both English and Spanish. He cares deeply about his patients and goes above and beyond to provide them with the best care possible. As a child, he endured a lot of dental treatments and suffered from severe dental anxiety. His goal in practice is to make dentistry a more pleasant experience for everyone. He is also a big believer in continuous learning and completes over 100 hours of additional training each year, perfecting his skills and incorporating the latest developments in dental medicine.
Dr. Llerena obtained a degree in nursing from Nova Southeastern University and worked as a registered nurse in a cardiac unit for several years. His passion for health care and great manual dexterity led him to a career in dentistry. He earned his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and then completed an internship in an oral and maxillofacial surgery center, where he was exposed to a wide array of dental/medical complications and gained extensive training in dental implants and IV sedation.
In his spare time, Dr. Llerena enjoys photography and traveling with his wife Linda. They have visited over 35 US States and more than 25 countries. He is an animal lover and has two beautiful dogs, Rocky and Pixie.
